The Story of แจ๊สไืทยๆ - Live Jazz in Thailand

Welcome to "Jazz Thai Thai - Live Jazz in Thailand". This Facebook group is my attempt to bring the jazz community in Thailand together.

The story started in the summer of 2017. I was helping a friend of mine, a Singaporean musician named Daniel Chia with his Bangkok Tour 2017. As musicians, we know a few musicians in town but we have no ideas where the gigs are at. I have noticed that in countries such as Singapore or Hong Kong, there are Facebook groups dedicated to  spreading information about jazz gigs around town. With this information, I decided to search up 'Thailand Jazz' on Facebook in a hope to find the same Facebook group dedicated to the same cause. However, I discovered that there was no Facebook group dedicated to posting gigs around Bangkok. Daniel and I then decided to create one in order to promote his gigs in Bangkok as well as for musicians in Bangkok to post about their gigs in Bangkok.

Over the years, "Jazz Thai Thai - Live Jazz in Thailand" has grown slowly and currently have over 600 members (as of July 2020). During the past few years, I have been living in Singapore. I tried my best to continuously update the group on gigs around town such as gigs at Saxophone, Foo John Building and Brown Sugar. However, there are times which I was so caught up in School, work and practice that I had no time to update the group. This was when I realized that to continue this group's relevance, it has to be run by the community.

I recently moved back to Bangkok in 2020. I believe that "Jazz Thai Thai - Live Jazz in Thailand" is an essential part of the Thai Jazz scene. This is because there needs to be an information pool for people who would like information about the jazz gigs in Thailand but have no idea where to go, to find out where gigs are happening. It is proving even more essential during this "post" COVID-19 pandemic era, when gigs are starting to come back up again. This group will provide support for musicians to inform and persuade potential jazz fans to attend their gigs.

I have decided to revamp "Jazz Thai Thai - Live Jazz in Thailand" Facebook group to make the group more appealing to musicians in Thailand as well as giving the group a more local touch. I will continue to improve upon this group and hope that this will become an essential part of the Thailand Jazz Scene.
